Andrea Teodosio 5k Race
Approximately 1,500 participants, volunteers and spectators
filled Lock 3 in Akron for the second annual Andrea Rose Teodosio
Foundation Il Palio del Drappo Verde e Rosso race on July 14, 2012.
The first-place male participant was Christopher Alto, who
completed the 5K course in 15.40 and was awarded the coveted red
cloth. Maria Moore won the women's division for the second straight
year with a time of 18:12 and was awarded the green cloth.
Approximately 500 runners registered for the event and an even
larger number were part of the one-mile walk/fun run. For the first
time, a kids' fun run was held, which was a huge hit for future
The Foundation is thankful to many people, in addition to our
generous sponsors who are listed below, for making the day a
success. These supporters include Chuck Collins of WAKR, Akron
Mayor Don Plusquellic, Congresswoman Betty Sutton, The City of
Akron, Dr. Terry Gordon, Fr. Mike Ausperk, DJ Mimo who set the mood
for the race, Sgt. Mike Vavro and the Akron Police Department, The
Peanut Shop, the Italian- American Festival Committee, Girl Scout
Troop 1016, Coach Julie Jones and the University of Akron Women's
Softball Team, our race- day volunteers and Angel sponsors.
The Foundation gives special thanks to the race committee, which
consisted of Carol Peter (chair), Mike Ciccolini, Getta Cornici,
Amy Dalesandro, Jack & Amy DeLeo, Joe Fantozzi, Katie
Greenwald, Katherine Kneeland, Dave Lombardi, Rob McCarty, Jon
Oldham (course director), David Peter, Christina Pilolli-Stires,
Laura Schlosser (volunteer coordinator) and Tom, Linda & Chris
At the Festival Scholarship Breakfast immediately following the
race, the Foundation awarded a scholarship in Andrea's memory to
Jennah Romansky, who will be attending Rutgers University in the
fall. Congratulations and Good luck, Jennah!
The Foundation is grateful for the many folks who stopped by the
Festival booth to talk and share stories of Andrea and support the
Foundation. John Dalessandro, President of the Council of
Italian-American Societies, pulled the winning raffle ticket on
Sunday evening. The winner of the lotto raffle was David Utley, and
Katie Herman won the gift basket donated by Haley Petrucelli.
